Return to player (RTP)

RTP is the share of all money staked that a game pays back over the very long run. A slot with a 96% RTP returns, on average, ₹96 for every ₹100 wagered across millions of spins — which is exactly the same as saying the game keeps ₹4 as its house edge. The single most important thing to understand is what RTP is not: it is not a promise about your session. It is a long-run average measured over an enormous number of rounds, and any one evening can land far above or far below it. You can lose ten spins in a row on a 97% game and win big on a 94% one. Over a night, over a week, the number tells you almost nothing; over a lifetime of play it is the gravity every game eventually falls toward.

Volatility (variance)

Volatility describes how bumpy the ride to that RTP is. A low-volatility game pays small amounts frequently, so your balance drifts up and down gently. A high-volatility game pays rarely but larger, so your balance can fall for a long stretch before a single result claws it back — or does not. This is why two games with an identical 96% RTP can feel like completely different games: one hands you a steady trickle of small wins, the other stays silent for fifty spins and then delivers a 200x multiplier. Hit frequency

Hit frequency is how often a round returns anything at all — a 25% hit frequency means roughly one in four spins pays something, even if that something is less than your stake. It is closely tied to volatility: low-volatility games tend to have high hit frequency, high-volatility games low. Note that a “hit” is not the same as a profit; a spin that returns half your stake still counts as a hit.

Matching volatility to your bankroll

The practical rule is simple. If you have a modest deposit and want it to last, choose low volatility and a small stake — you will see frequent small wins and long sessions. If you are chasing a large multiplier and can accept losing your stake quickly, high volatility is where those moments live, but only bet what you can lose without a second thought.
